So first, there was Raydium, the go-to DEX for swapping Solana tokens. Then came Pump.fun, created by a separate team specifically for launching meme coins. Initially, meme coins launched on Pump.fun would still be swapped through Raydium, with Raydium taking a commission on each transaction.
To counter Pump.fun’s growing popularity, Raydium launched LaunchLab, its own platform for meme coin creation. Now, in response to this competition, Pump.fun has introduced PumpSwap, a new alternative to Raydium for meme coin trading on Solana.

Pump.fun’s Role in Solana’s Meme Coin Surge
Pump.fun made Solana the hub for launching meme coins, with projects like Bonk and BOME gaining traction. These meme coins helped boost Solana’s price from lows in 2022 to new highs in 2025.

PumpSwap’s Advantage Over Raydium
PumpSwap offers fee-free, instant token migrations, and allows meme coins to list directly without the $69,000 market cap requirement previously needed for Raydium. With 0.25% swap fees, creators and liquidity providers share in the profits, making it a competitive choice for meme coin traders.
Raydium’s Response: LaunchLab
To compete, Raydium introduced LaunchLab, a multi-token support platform aimed at keeping its position as the go-to DEX for meme coins. While Raydium still leads with over $1.1 billion in TVL, it faces intense competition from PumpSwap.

The Rise of High Market Cap Meme Coins
This competition between Pump.fun and Raydium could lead to the emergence of high market cap meme coins, as both platforms vie for dominance. Only time will tell which DEX will capture the largest share of Solana’s booming meme coin market.
